Delighted young star Archie Gray has made a ‘whole life’ Leeds United statement and revealed the Whites’ ‘point’ goal.
Daniel Farke’s second-placed Whites went into Friday night’s top-of-the-table meeting with Championship leaders Leicester City having won eight league games in a row, but looked doomed to lose as the game neared its conclusion.
Wout Faes’ header gave Leicester a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, and the Foxes controlled the opening of the second half, squandering numerous opportunities to extend their lead. Gray, on the other hand, played a vital role as United staged a spectacular Elland Road comeback to win 3-1, sparking scenes that 17-year-old Gray described as the best he had witnessed in his life thus far.
Leicester might have gone 12 points ahead of Leeds with a win, but the difference has now narrowed to six points, and teenage sensation Gray claims his team was motivated to prove a different point.
“It means a lot,” Gray said after the match against LUTV. “We needed to win the game. We thought before the game that everyone was desperate to win since there had been so much buildup to it, it was first vs. second, and we wanted to show a point, which we did. It was a good outcome.
When asked what he thought of the chaotic scenes inside Elland Road as Leeds came back for victory, Gray said: “To be honest, I think it’s the greatest it’s been in my whole life, and I’ve been following Leeds since I was around two or three years old.
“I believe it was the greatest it has been. I can’t remember a game where the entire stadium stayed afterward and sang as if the game had just begun. “I believe it is the best it has been.”
