Alan Brazil has shared his thoughts on Leeds United’s Championship promotion push this season.
Leeds’ season hasn’t been off to the ideal start. In addition to suffering to a 3-0 setback at the hands of Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup, they were also held to a 3-3 draw by Portsmouth in their Championship opener.
Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Glen Kamara have all been sold, while Georginio Rutter is expected to join Brighton.
Ray Parlour noted on talkSPORT (16 August) that Leeds had lost a lot of players, to which Brazil responded, “Ooft, have they?”.
Parlour went on to suggest that they’re still favourites win the title, with Brazil making a confident forecast by declaring, “I can’t see that”.
Leeds United faces doubters.
There were always going to be doubters about Leeds United this season. When you lose a few key players during the transfer window, there is pressure, especially after losing in the play-off final just months before.
The questions will continue to mount ahead of another difficult match against West Brom this Saturday. For Daniel Farke, however, it appears to be full steam ahead. He has previously experienced pressure as a leader, and some have even called for his resignation following a string of poor results. Instead of wilting, he chooses to persevere in the face of chaos.
The bookmakers still feel Leeds will play a role in the title fight. They have money, a good roster, and flexibility to maneuver in the transfer market. There is no single move they can make that will fully transform their fortunes, but in the final third, they have the potential to cause havoc on any club in the league. That could ultimately be the deciding factor.
