Liverpool has been connected with a number of player signings since the turn of the year 2024.
The Reds are preparing to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp in a few weeks. After nearly eight years as manager, the German will leave the club.
Arne Slot is set to replace Klopp, and he will undoubtedly want to bring in a few new players when the summer transfer window opens.
Fabrizio Romano provided an update on a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
Fabrizio Romano reveals what he has heard about Liverpool and Pedro.
Liverpool are likely to be quite busy throughout the upcoming summer transfer window.
Any new manager would want to sign fresh players, and the Reds have been linked with over a dozen names since the beginning of 2024.
In recent days, one name has emerged as a Liverpool target: Barcelona star Pedri.
The promising Spain international’s future has recently become a hot topic of conversation. He will enter the final two years of his contract this summer, and Barcelona will need to make a decision.
Rumours have circulated that Liverpool is interested in the 21-year-old midfielder, but Fabrizio Romano has officially denied these allegations.
The journalist claims he can ‘guarantee’ that there is now nothing between Liverpool and Pedri.
Romano also said that the young midfielder and Barcelona will begin talks on a new deal very soon.
He stated in his Daily Briefing: “Despite what has been published elsewhere, I can promise that there is nothing between Pedri and Liverpool, or between Liverpool and Barcelona for Pedri – the situation is entirely calm.
“Pedri is extremely happy and committed to Barcelona, and he is an important part of the project at the Nou Camp.”
“Of course, contract talks will have to take place in the coming weeks and months – this will be one of the priorities for Barca now that an agreement has been reached for Pau Cubarsi (it’s just about the final details now); Pedri is another player who will speak with Barca about a new contract; talks will take place, but when PSG were interested in the past, Pedri refused to entertain any talks because his full focus remains on Barcelona.”
“So, a new contract will be a topic really soon between Pedri and Barca, and it’s also important to say that Liverpool have different priorities – a new centre-back, and a new player in the offensive positions, so these are the areas to watch, more than a big signing in midfield.”
Liverpool will need to pay a fortune to sign Pedri.
Liverpool and Pedri are currently separated by nothing. The kid is likely to stay at Barcelona, with a new contract expected to be given soon.
However, if negotiations between the two groups fail, the Reds may once again enter the picture.
If Barcelona is unable to sign Pedri to a new deal this summer, they may contemplate selling him because his stock is currently higher than it would be next year, when he will only have a year left.
If they have to sell him, the Catalans will almost certainly demand a high price. According to the Guardian, his release clause is set at an astounding €1 billion, or around £846 million.
