Liverpool have yet to make any meaningful moves during the summer transfer window.
Since the end of the season in May, the Reds have been connected with a variety of players but have failed to make any moves.
The ongoing international tournaments are undoubtedly a contributing factor. Liverpool initially had 14 players participating in the Copa America and Euro 2024.
However, in addition to the Liverpool squad members in the United States and Germany, the Reds have a plethora of possible transfer targets who are also playing for their respective countries.
With both tournaments expected to expire in the next two weeks, Arne Slot allegedly has a chance to finalize an intriguing deal.
How Liverpool feel about Anthony Gordon’s chances.
Anthony Gordon, a Newcastle winger, has emerged as a potential Liverpool transfer target.
Gordon has had a fantastic season with the Magpies, earning a berth in Gareth Southgate’s England side.
And while England prepares to face Slovakia on Sunday, Newcastle faces the Premier League’s PSR deadline on the same day. They need to make a sell.
As a result, Gordon was supposedly offered to Liverpool in part exchange for Jarell Quansah. Despite the Reds’ rejection of that prospect, Gordon appears to have a chance of joining Anfield.
Now, speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed the inside scoop on Liverpool’s interest in Gordon.
“I understand that Liverpool’s interest in Gordon is long-standing, even before his move to Newcastle they have been hugely impressed with him,” Bailey tells me.
“I am told analytics wise he shows up very well,” says the reporter. “The sense at Anfield is that he is a unique talent. Newcastle have severe concerns with PSR; it is doubtful as of Saturday, but never say never.
“If Newcastle come up with the right deal, and that does not include Jarrell Quansah, then there is a chance – if a small one -that it could happen.”
Will Liverpool sign Anthony Gordon?
This is a fascinating link for Liverpool fans, and what makes it even more intriguing is that Newcastle may need to complete the sale by Sunday.
If the Magpies manage to unload another member of the squad, Gordon is unlikely to be offered to another club.
Having said that, the 23-year-old is a lifelong Liverpool supporter. Once Newcastle has opened that box and a deal to Anfield becomes a possibility, he may try to force it through anyhow.
Initially, it was believed – and reaffirmed by Bailey – that Gordon’s move to Liverpool remains ‘unlikely’.
Nonetheless, there is certainly a lot of interest, both from the player and the team. If not this summer, perhaps this one for the next 12 months.
