Leeds United are still actively looking for new players before the end of the transfer window.
Leeds would want to have completed all of their business before the season’s first game against Portsmouth, but this is not always possible.
Leeds are counting on the futures of some of their present players when it comes to making moves on possible targets.
The sagas involving Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto might well continue into the last stages of the window, leaving Leeds looking for replacements, which they have identified.
Farke has previously stated that he wants to add players to two positions: central midfield and full-back, both of which are lacking in depth.
Leeds target Dejan Ljubicic’s previous statements about future.
Speaking following Wednesday’s victory over Hannover, Farke identified midfield as an area that requires reinforcements due to the departures of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara.
Leeds have already signed Joe Rothwell, but Farke does not believe it is enough, and according to reports in Germany, the Whites are interested in FC Koln’s Dejan Ljubicic.
Leeds are reportedly preparing a second offer for Ljubicic after an initial £3.3 million proposal was rejected, and this is an opportunity to take advantage of given that he only has a year left on his contract.
Interestingly, in an interview with Liga-Zwei just 24 hours before the announcement of Leeds’ approach, Ljubicic was asked to provide an update on his future plans.
Ljubicic claims that while he is absolutely committed to giving his all for Koln, he is ‘in contact’ with the club’s hierarchy and hasn’t ruled out leaving.
He stated, “I am here, and I am focusing on the necessities, which are that I am doing well again. I just want to give it my all during training and offer myself to the new coach. That is all that matters at the moment.
“The football business moves quickly. I am in communication with those in charge, and my contract with FC runs until 2025 – I am here and I am content.”
What Koln’s manager, Gerhard Struber, said about Ljubicic
Following Koln’s relegation from the Bundesliga in May, former Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber was named the club’s new manager.
Within his first week on the job, he was asked about the future of his Austrian colleague Ljubicic.
Struber highlighted Ljubicic as a player he wants to maintain because of his potential effect on a promotion drive this season.
According to Geissblog, he stated, “Dejan is a player who has performed well for FC in recent years and can help us very, very well on our way back to the Bundesliga.” Great. Simply superb. The total package is unique. I’m quite pleased to have him.”
