Nottingham Forest’s next Premier League game in 2024/25 will be against Southampton on the south coast.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had a decent start, earning a point against Bournemouth on Saturday.
However, the Reds will have felt like they had dropped two points after dominating the first half.
However, Forest will face Southampton, who were defeated by a 10-man Newcastle United at the weekend.
This weekend’s encounter at St Mary’s will give both sides with a huge opportunity for three points, and Paul Merson has already guessed who will win.
Paul Merson predicts who will win between Southampton and Nottingham Forest.
With a week left in the transfer window, Forest are still seeking for a new striker, with Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah of particular interest to the club.
However, any new striker who arrives before the deadline next week would miss Saturday’s game against the Saints.
And it appears that a new striker is exactly what Merson believes Forest will need, with the Sky Sports pundit making a frustrating forecast for everyone associated at the City Ground.
Although Forest controlled Bournemouth for much of the game, Merson believes Southampton will get their first win of the season this weekend.
“But the upcoming game against Nottingham Forest is huge for Southampton, and they must get results in such games if they want to stay in the Premier League,” he told Sportskeeda, predicting a 1-0 Saints victory.
“All three promoted teams surely had their moments in their first games. If Leicester send Vardy to Southampton, I’ll support them to remain up. Saints sorely need a goal scorer.
“I’m going to support Southampton to win here. I believe they will hold it tight at the back and get a big win over Forest. That is also a major problem for Forest.
Nottingham Forest could make a major statement with a win over Southampton.
Forest have had a rather good start to the new season, with games against Bournemouth, Southampton, and Wolves.
Although nobody expected the Reds to take all nine points from those games, many hoped for at least one or two wins.
And with a game against Liverpool coming up after the Wolves encounter, Forest must make the most of their early games.
A win on Saturday would undoubtedly help to calm any early worries surrounding the club, given that they fought relegation until the end of last season.
Forest has made significant recruiting efforts this summer, and it is possible that their new players will make a difference this weekend.
