Leeds United are interested in signing Jayden Bogle from rivals Sheffield United, and we spoke with Blades expert Lee Connor about the right-back’s potential move to Elland Road.
Bogle, 23, was a regular for Sheffield United last season. He appeared in 34 of his current club’s 38 Premier League games as the Blades were demoted to the Championship a year after their promotion.
A former Championship player who appeared 115 times for Sheffield United and Derby County. In that time, he has scored eight goals and provided 16 assists from the right side of the defense.
However, Bogle is now in the final year of his contract at Bramall Lane, and Leeds are hoping to take advantage. Daniel Farke wants to bring Bogle to Elland Road to replace Connor Roberts.
Sheffield United expert discusses Leeds’ interest in Jayden Bogle.
Last season, Bogle often played on the right side of a 3-4-3 system and scored three Premier League goals. His goals came against Manchester City, Chelsea, and Manchester United, which is pretty outstanding.
We chatted with Sheffield United.Lee Connor, a news writer, gave us the skinny on Bogle. What the right-back is like as a player, what pay he might command, and what’s going on with his contract issue.
“Unsure [why his deal has been allowed to expire]. We’ve made this a practice under this ownership, and it’s causing a lot of problems with the supporters. Berge, Ndiaye, and McBurnie are all off the books owing to similar reasons.
“I’d guess we’d sell if he showed no signs of renewing. Bogle is no slouch; he played the majority of our games last season against some formidable wingers. “No worse than anybody else in the back four or five.”
Bogle sale would irritate Sheffield United fans; what kind of price?
Given his status as one of Sheffield United’s best players, Blades fans want him to stay, and Connor believes it would irritate fans if he left, particularly to Leeds, despite the fact that they have signed Jamie Shackleton.
It is unclear how much Sheffield United would demand for Bogle, but Connor believes anything less than £5 million would infuriate fans even more. The Blades specialist believes Bogle would be a good fit for Daniel Farke’s team, though.
“If Bogle joined Leeds, the fans would be more annoyed. Personally, I don’t see Chris Wilder wanting to lose Bogle, and given this question, I’d guess he doesn’t want to strengthen Leeds either.
“I would be dissatisfied with anything less than £5 million. The last 12 months of his contract are a concern, but less than £5 million would irritate fans. I believe he will stay if the new ownership is finalized in the coming weeks.
“I’d expect he’ll fit Leeds because you’ll have a lot of possession and be on the front foot. He has moments of brilliance in the final third. He’s got a goal in him, a trick for beating a man, and good pace.”
So he may be a terrific addition to Leeds’ roster. But it may depend on what Sheffield United want for Bogle and whether the midfielder is interested in moving to Elland Road after spending the previous four years at Bramall Lane.
