Keith Wyness, Everton’s former manager, has suggested that Liverpool decide whether to cash in on Trent Alexander-Arnold before the August 30 transfer deadline.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, claimed £25-30 million would be a fair price for the 25-year-old, who can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.
Alexander-Arnold has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool, and his current contract expires in less than a year.
In recent years, the England international has been linked with Real Madrid, the Spanish giants.
He was an important player for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, scoring three goals and providing nine assists in 39 games.
Liverpool faces a tough decision on ‘£30m’ Wyness confirms Alexander-Arnold’s leaving.
Wyness stated that it may be worth “taking the hit” for Liverpool and allowing him to finish his contract, but revealed that he believes the right-back will depart Merseyside this summer.
He said on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast, “The question is, do you take the hit on a player like Trent?”
“He can sign pre-contracts in January.
“Do you take the hit with one year left? What will they get for him?
“I believe there will be a move, and he will leave.
“£25-30 million would be a reasonable offer with one year left; do you take the hit and accept it as compensation for him playing one last season?
“That’s the kind of thing Liverpool will look into.
“It’s a transition season, and it could be worth a lot to keep him and waive the transfer cost just to have him on the team.
“That’s an interesting perspective. If they compete for the league or make it to the Champions League, it could be sustainable.”
