Paul Robinson is not concerned that Leeds United is failed to announce a new Willy Gnonto deal.
Despite seeking to leave the club last summer, it surfaced during the January transfer window that the Italian attacker was close to negotiating new terms to stay at Elland Road, but despite a significant resurgence from the 20-year-old on the pitch, there has been no further news.
However, Robinson does not believe there is “anything sinister” behind the lack of an update on the talks and is pleased with what he has seen from Gnonto on the pitch in recent weeks, implying that if it helps fire the Whites to promotion, the deal should follow and all parties will be satisfied.
He exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “I don’t see anything sinister about the fact that he hasn’t signed the contract yet.” We know they’re in discussions, but I believe individuals deserve a lot of credit for getting to the stage where the player is now playing well and scoring goals.
“The most important thing for me is that when I watch Gnonto play, he has a smile on his face and appears to be having fun.
“That is one of his most important priorities. You get the most out of him, and he plays his greatest football when he’s like that.
“So, everyone will be happy if he continues to be like that, Leeds is in the Premier League, and he signs a new contract.”
No fears about Leeds United contract talks as Willy Gnonto plays with a smile on his face.
Gnonto’s current contract runs until 2027, with talks aimed at extending it by another year and increasing his salary, so there isn’t a significant risk of losing him if nothing is signed soon.
At the moment, the circumstance appears to be having a beneficial effect on him, considering his heightened importance to Daniel Farke’s team following Dan James’ injury.
