Graham Smyth shares only expected Leeds business in January, exit wanted

According to Graham Smyth, Joe Gelhardt’s loan departure is the only expected business at Leeds United in January, with all parties interested in a move.

Gelhardt’s game time has been severely limited under Daniel Farke, having played only nine minutes of football this season, with an Elland Road exit looking likely in the transfer window.

Wrexham had been tipped as a potential destination for Gelhardt (Graeme Bailey) with Smyth sharing interest from England, Scotland and Belgium so far.

Leeds United cannot afford to refrain from January business

The Whites are enjoying a terrific campaign and depending on the results on New Year’s Day, they might find themselves five points clear at the summit of the Championship.

However, the teams around them will definitely be aiming to increase their chances of beating Leeds to the crown, and if the Whites do not duplicate that purpose, they risk succumbing to the pressure.

Leeds must demonstrate their desire in the summer window if they are to keep their position at the top, and ties to Emi Buendia at Aston Villa are the type of deal they should pursue (TEAMtalk).

The following two weeks will undoubtedly provide a clearer sense of how the promotion battle will unfold, with much of that depending on January’s performance.

If Gelhardt’s departure is the only business done, it will demonstrate a terrible lack of ambition and possibly a hint of arrogance if they do not strengthen.
