According to Graham Smyth, Leeds United feel Emi Buendia would be significantly more interested in a move to La Liga than Elland Road.
The Aston Villa striker has been extensively connected with a move to the Whites in January, but it is thought Buendia has little desire to move down from the Premier League to the Championship [Ben Jacobs].
There is a clear link between the two parties, since they both played under Daniel Farke at Norwich City, and the 28-year-old is yet to make a Premier League start this season.
However, writing for X [20 January], Smyth stated: “Leeds now believe La Liga interest will be too appealing for Buendia.
“But getting him or a player like him probably puts this team over the edge into winning-a-title-by-a-distance land, doesn’t it?”
Leeds United to miss out on Emi Buendía another again?
After seeing a move for Buendia rejected by Aston Villa in the summer [The Square Ball], it appears that Farke will miss out on one of his former stars yet again.
During his three seasons with the Canaries, the offensive midfielder scored 24 goals and provided 41 assists in 121 appearances, making him one of the most productive Championship attackers during that time.
While Leeds already boasts a strong attacking team, adding someone of Buendia’s caliber to the club would be beneficial as they seek promotion to the Premier League.
After only 11 Premier League substitute appearances this season, it seems unlikely that a player like Buendia would not prefer a move somewhere where he could become a vital role.
Farke is clearly a big fan of the Argentine given their history together, and his arrival will most likely push Brenden Aaronson to the bench for the second part of the season.
Only Joel Piroe has scored more than ten goals in the Championship this season, leaving a lot to be desired from his teammates.
