Graham Smyth offers the ‘Last Ditch’ Gnonto exodus update as Leeds ‘Priority’ emerges

According to Graham Smyth, Leeds United intend to keep Willy Gnonto as a priority during Transfer Deadline Day.

On August 30, a Yorkshire Evening Post journalist stated on the outlet’s website that no one has yet made a “last-ditch” move to contest the Italian’s stance.

Everton pursued the attacker earlier this summer but withdrew after the Whites turned down a £23 million bid [Nancy Froston, August 6].

On August 20, TEAMtalk stated that Gnonto’s agent was still trying to arrange a move away from Elland Road after witnessing Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter leave.

Leeds United wants to keep Willy Gnonto after Everton’s rejection.

Daniel Farke will not want to see any further players leave his squad before the deadline, unless it is entirely on his terms.

He’s already spent the majority of the summer watching his squad deteriorate, primarily as a result of similar leave clauses to those that tormented him last year.

Since Rutter’s departure to Brighton, the tables have luckily turned, with Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon coming in.

Ao Tanaka has come on Deadline Day to strengthen the midfield, and the Japanese international is ready to play Hull City immediately [Sky Sports, 30 August].

Full-back Isaac Schmidt is next in for a medical, which should be completed by 11 p.m., and there have been significant links to Freiberg’s Hungarian international Roland Sallai [Sacha Tavolieri, 29 August].

The Whites’ manager and fans will hope that the spotlight remains on incoming transactions rather than any unexpected outgoing ones, with Gnonto an important element of the offensive lineup.
