Willy Gnonto has made no mention of leaving Leeds United this summer, despite interest from Everton, according to Graham Smyth.
Smyth said in the Yorkshire Evening Post’s online edition [6 August] that Gnonto has been training as usual, despite Everton’s £23 million offer, which was later rejected.
While his close friend Crysencio Summerville has departed Elland Road, it is believed he still has other close buddies in the team.
This comes just a few days after it was reported that Gnonto intended to return to Italy (Inter Live, August 3).
Leeds United should keep Willy Gnonto pleased.
Gnonto, at the age of 20, is an up-and-coming player. He’s confident, composed, and open to trying new things in the final third.
Of course, certain doubts remain about how far he can go, but the early signals are encouraging.
For this and other reasons, Leeds United must do everything possible to keep him. Last season, in 36 league games, he scored eight goals and two assists. As a winger who is still figuring out his identity, that’s a respectable if not outstanding return.
Beyond that, Leeds should think twice about any future significant sales. With Summerville and Archie Gray gone, the emphasis must be on new acquisitions.
Yes, the club is widely favored to win the Championship this season, but there is no certainty.
Daniel Farke recognizes the importance of having a well-balanced squad, and we’re looking forward to seeing what happens next for Gnonto.
