The Liverpool icon is expected to join Rangers with a former Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham manager.
Rangers legend Graeme Souness has been backed to make a fiery comeback to Ibrox, accompanied by an iconic manager of EPL repute.
The former player-manager keeps a close eye on his former team and was recently seen at Ibrox for interim manager Barry Ferguson’s first home game, a defeat to Motherwell earlier this month. Since then, the club has enjoyed success, defeating Fenerbahce in the Europa League and winning the Old Firm against Celtic.

Following the recent comeback of former players Ferguson, Billy Dodds, Neil McCann, and Allan McGregor, he believes Souness’ approach is exactly what the team needs. He previously participated in the process that resulted in Philippe Clement’s managerial employment in 2023.
Why Rangers’ return to Graeme Souness makes sense.
Ferguson told Ibrox News that Souness adds an aura and a wealth of experience. It’s exactly the type of individual we require at the club. I believe he misjudged Rangers when he first arrived, but he learned soon. He understands everything about the club and is really passionate about it.
“He’s the type of guy we need: passionate but also intelligent. This is why many fans are interested in Barry, [Billy] Dodds, [Neil] McCann, and [Allan] McGregor’s involvement.
“The club has been clamouring for this for years. Whether or not Barry will be in control next season, get him involved. I’ve been arguing for years that Souness should be behind the scenes. Clement may have been endangered by his presence, but I believe otherwise. If you have someone with that expertise and knowledge, bring them on board.
Jose Mourinho joins Souness at Ibrox.
Why have just one fiery character when you can have two? Prior to the Rangers game in Europe, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho stated that he would be willing to manage either side of the Old Firm one day. Ferguson sees no damage in enlisting the man who has previously worked for Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United.
He said on Ibrox News: “Why not? I was watching that interview with my boy, and as soon as he indicated that he was interested, we both looked at each other. But do you know anything? I can see him getting appointed as well. What an appointment, with the takeover and all that entails. That would be completely wonderful.
“At the same time, I’m not sure if he’s also playing mind games. He emphasized how much he enjoyed the recent Celtic-Rangers game. That delighted him. That would delight me. Because of Europe, where the Rangers compete on a yearly basis, that will draw attention. So why don’t players of Mourinho’s caliber come in and assist Rangers catch up with Celtic?
