Leeds United are in talks to sign Norwich City attacker Jonathan Rowe this summer as Daniel Farke wants to raid his former club, and Carlton Palmer has had his say.
Leeds are set to bring in a few new faces before the deadline with the transfer of Crysencio Summerville to West Ham for a £25 million initial cost.
Leeds has a lot of spots that require strengthening. Farke currently has only three senior full-backs in his squad: Sam Byram, Junior Firpo, and new No.2 Jayden Bogle, who joined in the summer.
Farke also needs to replace Glen Kamara, and a goal-scoring midfielder is the best option. On-loan Joe Rothwell will hope to be that guy, although Leeds are expected to make a new signing.
Carlton Palmer has his say on Jonathan Rowe as Leeds table bids.
Then, of course, Summerville’s replacement. The Dutchman was the Championship’s Player of the Season last season, with 31 goals and assists, and he needs to be replaced in some capacity before the deadline.
Leeds has made an initial £7 million bid for England U21 player Rowe, but it is anticipated to be rejected. We spoke with Graeme Bailey here at LeedsUnited.News, and he believes Leeds wants to complete a trade for less than £10 million.
Leeds are aware that the deal for Rowe will not be ‘straightforward’, but former Leeds midfielder Palmer believes otherwise. He told Football League World that he believes a £7 million sum is sufficient to sign “very smart” Rowe.
“I believe a fee of £7 million would get him to Leeds. It’s a fantastic move for him because he will get more playing time. A move to the Championship before the Premier League might help Rowe and Leeds.”
Leeds has a backup plan if they are unable to complete the Rowe deal.
The Whites are not foolish enough to pursue only one player. The new-look transfer team consists of three primary leaders, as opposed to one supreme dictator who controlled everything, such as Victor Orta.
Jordan Miles, Nick Hammond, and Gretar Steinsson have been astute in the transfer market thus far. Leeds have signed Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Bogle, and Ilia Gruev for a total of £25 million.
Needless to say, they are looking for alternatives to Rowe, and one player Leeds might sign on loan is Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. However, the spotlight is on Norwich’s Rowe, with a second proposal imminent.
