Gary Neville forecasts Nottingham Forest points deduction following Everton’s FFP ‘precedent’

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has spoken about Nottingham Forest’s suspected financial infraction and potential Premier League point deduction.

Gary Neville has shared his thoughts on Nottingham Forest’s potential points deduction.

The Premier League penalized Forest in January with violating the profitability and sustainability criteria (PSR). Forest is scheduled to face an independent commission within the first fortnight of March.

Everton’s points loss was lowered from 10 to six points on Monday after appealing the first punishment imposed in November. The Toffees were charged with a single PSR violation, and Neville believes Everton’s position has set the precedent for the potential punishment Forest may face.

“The Premier League will not give Nottingham Forest more than six points because there is precedent,” Neville said on the Sky Bet-sponsored Stick to Football podcast. “If they award each side six points for disobeying these guidelines, they’ll know what to expect.

“The first thing that needs to happen is they need to make it in-season, so the three-years, £105 million, they need to make it such that your losses are contained within one season. That will resolve many of these concerns because you will not be measuring it across three years.”

Neville’s call for the regulations to be changed to cover single-season losses comes after Everton was charged with a further infraction in January, which the club has disputed because it covers part of the same financial period.

Forest, as a newly promoted team, faces unique financial restraints. The Reds’ losses over the last three seasons have been limited to £61 million: £13 million for the two seasons in the Championship under Financial Fair Play restrictions for second-tier clubs, plus £35 million last season.
