Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive: Alan Shearer compliments striker Chris Wood.
Alan Shearer thinks Chris Wood is “in the form of his life” at Nottingham Forest.
The striker scored twice to lead the Reds to a 3-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League on Friday night, bringing his league record this season to an incredible seven goals in nine games. He is presently the third highest scoring Premier League player, after only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (11 goals) and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (eight goals).
Forest’s victory over the Foxes was discussed on Match of the Day, with host and Leicester supporter Gary Lineker saying: “What a win for Forest, he says through gritted teeth!”.
Shearer focused on Wood’s two goals, saying, “He is in the best shape of his life. He’s in a position where you don’t just hope to score goals; you know you’ll score goals.
“He’s just full of confidence and scored two very different goals.”
Wood scored his first goal against Leicester with a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net after swiveling inside the penalty area, and then beat City defender Wout Faes to a ball over the top to send a looping header over goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to double his tally.
Shearer analyzed his first goal, saying: “First and foremost, the movement to get in there, followed by the touch, swivel, turn, and everything else, and wrapping his foot around it the way he did. He has no other thoughts and is perfectly aware of his location.
“Not a single notion crossed his mind about passing it. It’s getting his shot away, and why shouldn’t he, given his current form?”
And after his second goal, Shearer said, “He’s just too strong for Wout Faes, and he knows where he is, where the goalie is, and what he has to do. He’s too strong and good for Faes to simply direct it over the goalkeeper like that.
“It’s a great feeling for him, for the goals, and certainly for Forest the form that they’re in as well.”
