Derek Ferguson was dissatisfied with how Rangers handled Ianis Hagi’s predicament at the beginning of the season.
The Romanian was not part of the senior squad in the first few weeks of the season as the club resolved a contractual disagreement.
However, given the lack of options at Philippe Clement’s disposal, the Romanian was brought back into the first squad and has been a regular in recent weeks.
Speaking about the club’s mismanagement behind the scenes, Ferguson told Open Goal on January 16, at 58:38.
“You can see Hagi has come in by default, and no one has signed because of all the crap that has happened. They couldn’t simply sit around the table and discuss it. “He kind of stumbled upon that.”
Rangers cannot be making such bad boardroom decisions
The situation with the Romanian at Ibrox was particularly frustrating because it demonstrated a lack of professionalism and foresight from the club’s administration.
Hagi, a player recognized for his technical ability and creativity, was sidelined at the start of the season owing to contractual difficulties, only to be reintroduced when the squad ran out of other choices.
This delay meant that the club missed out on the 26-year-old’s potential contributions during vital early matches, where his flair could have made a big impact.
His subsequent comeback has proven his worth, demonstrating that his absence was a self-inflicted wound for the club.
Such backstage mishandling is unacceptable for a team that aspires to be a serial champion.
It reflects negatively on the board’s seriousness and skill in dealing with player issues, which has a direct impact on team performance.
