Conor Coady, a Leicester City defender, has praised Tottenham’s summer signing Micky van de Ven, calling him the season’s best purchase.
Spurs have made some excellent signings since last summer. Players like James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario have proven to be valuable additions to the team since their arrival in North London.
However, Micky van de Ven has emerged as Tottenham’s star signing, notably due to his immediate influence on the pitch.
The Dutch defender was signed from Wolfsburg for €40 million, a deal that is currently being viewed as a steal given his performances.
Van de Ven quickly established himself at Tottenham, forging a powerful partnership with Romero in center defence. Initially, his performances remained undetected, but he has just begun to receive the deserved praise from commentators and colleagues.
Former Liverpool defender Conor Coady praised Van de Ven and praised Spurs for acquiring such a talented player during an appearance on Premier League Productions.
Coady commended Van de Ven’s speed and defensive ability, emphasizing his contribution to Tottenham’s playing style and defensive system.
He also claimed that Van de Ven may be considered one of the season’s best additions based on his impacting performances.
He stated (via TBR):
“I opted for Van de Ven at Tottenham. I believe he has been an excellent signing.
“We were discussing a centre-back profile these days, but look at where Tottenham’s line is, and he has the pace to get back.”
“If you are going to play that manner, and how Tottenham has recruited in terms of buying him, you have previously discussed season-long acquisitions. He’d be right up there. He really, truly will. It is unbelievable. He has been an excellent addition for Tottenham.”
Van de Ven’s pace was recently recorded as the fastest in the Premier League, highlighting his athleticism and defensive abilities, making him the ideal player for Ange.
The Dutch centre-back was a regular on the Spurs team sheet at the start of the season, starting all eleven league games before suffering a hamstring injury against Chelsea in November.
The injury kept him out for over two months, causing him to miss ten games for the Lilywhites. Nevertheless, he returned in the second week of January and has since restored his starting spot on the team.
