The White full-back has been predicted to leave Elland Road on a possible loan move, which is embedded in his contract.
Junior Firpo of Leeds United has been extensively linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer, and one of his former teammates has already urged his team to join him on the European continent.
According to Spanish outlet ABC, the left-back’s current contract includes a clause that allows him to leave the club on loan to any team of his choice following the club’s failure to win promotion back to the Premier League last season after a 1-0 loss to Southampton in the Playoff final at Wembley Stadium.
According to sources, La Liga club Real Betis is expected to sign Firpo, another Leeds player, this summer, with conversations already underway about the Dominican Republic international’s possible move in the coming weeks. It is thought that discussions between the two clubs about a potential deal for Firpo occurred during talks for his former teammates Marc Roca and Diego Llorente, who both joined Betis earlier in the year.
It appears that Leeds will not recoup the £12.8 million they paid for Firpo when they signed him from Barcelona in 2021, despite the fact that the star has been an important part of manager Daniel Farke’s squad over the last year, with eight assists in 33 appearances helping the Whites get within one match of promotion.
While he is now United’s sole recognised left-back, Firpo could leave for Betis after Llorente revealed his relationship with the player in a recent interview.
After his four-year stint at Leeds United concluded with an 18-month loan spell at AS Roma before completing his permanent move to Betis earlier this month, Llorente was questioned if he had recommended Firpo to Betis following Leeds’ failed promotion. He said: “I was disappointed that they did not get promoted because they were so close to returning to the Premier League.”
“Above that, I only have positive things to say about him. We all know Junior and what he’s capable of. Going away has helped him improve; it strengthens you. The Premier League experience obviously benefits you. It helps you improve day by day. It’s another form of training. Physically, you must contend with stronger and faster opponents, but you adapt. All bouts require a high level of attentiveness.
“You learn a lot from these leagues, just like I did in Italy. I’ve evolved. Now I have to adjust to the Spanish league again after being away for four years, but with experience, I believe I have improved.”
