Simon Grayson has pushed Leeds United to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent basis this summer, despite missing out on promotion via the play-offs.
The Welshman joined the Whites on a season-long loan last summer, but will leave following Southampton’s defeat at Wembley.
Despite initial financial concerns, the news of Red Bull sponsorship could provide Daniel Farke with a much-needed boost during the transfer window.
Rodon could return this summer, and Grayson pushed the club to do so in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post on May 31.
The Sky Sports analyst stated, “Out of the non-contracted players, I believe Joe Rodon would be an excellent addition to the team.”
“You don’t play for Tottenham and be a Welsh international without being a good player so I think that fits a bill.”
Leeds United wants Joe Rodon permanently.
Rodon was without a doubt one of Leeds’ most consistent performers during the season, helping the club keep the most clean sheets in the Championship.
The Welsh trio, together with Ethan Ampadu, have helped to establish a solid foundation ahead of Illan Meslier, who has been instrumental under Farke.
Rodon made 50 appearances in all competitions for Leeds while on loan, and the club’s management will be eager to make it permanent.
The potential of this is dependent on the club’s financial situation, which is now uncertain and must be resolved as quickly as possible.
Key players such as Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, and Wilfried Gnonto are likely to depart this summer.
If this is the case, signing proven stars like Rodon on a permanent basis could be critical.
There is expected to be Premier League interest in his signing, but if Farke can entice him back to Elland Road, he may be a great investment.
