Sepp van den Berg is increasingly attracting transfer interest around Europe.
According to Fabrizio Romano of X (previously Twitter), PSV Eindhoven made a formal approach of around £8.4 million for the Dutchman’s services this summer, which Liverpool ‘quickly refused’.
Almost two months after telling Dutch media that he wanted to leave the club, the 22-year-old is already practicing with the Liverpool senior squad and playing in pre-season games.
Will Sepp Van Den Berg be sold this summer?
It is not just PSV that has expressed an interest in our No.72. According to German media sources, Bundesliga clubs Hoffenheim and Mainz were also interested.
Still, it’s unlikely that Van den Berg will leave Anfield this summer, even if an interested party matches our £20 million assessment.
According to sources close to the club, the former PEC Zwolle star has apparently exceeded the coaching staff’s expectations, especially our new head coach, Arne Slot.
Is this just public discussion to drive up the asking price? Perhaps. However, such claims on the player’s pre-season progress are likely to be accurate.
While adding to the squad ahead of a possibly busy August would be helpful, it would be considerably more useful if Liverpool found a use for the former loan star ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Time will tell on that front.
