Finance Expert impressed with £177 million Leeds expose, 49ers can go even further

Dan Plumley has praised Leeds United following the publication of the current edition of the Deloitte Football Money League, which placed the Whites ahead of some European heavyweights.

Looking back in the 2022/23 season, when Leeds were in the Premier League, they finished 27th in the globe, earning £177.6 million.

The football finance specialist stated that with 49ers Enterprises now in charge, Leeds has a huge opportunity for expansion if they return to the Premier League swiftly this season.

“It underlines those points,” he told MOT Leeds News exclusively.
“One is how far and distant the Premier League is from the rest of Europe financially, and when you look at the clubs in the top 20 of that money league and the positions 21-30, you can see where the financial power lies.

“We know that a lot of that is driven by Premier League broadcasting money, so you would expect Leeds United to drop off that list in the next iteration because they are currently in the Championship, but if you can return to the Premier League fairly quickly and then reignite that boost in revenue from the broadcasting side of things, factor in the club’s overall potential, tie in with the ownership and plans for growth, then you begin to see the potential.

“I think it’s unlikely we will see Leeds in the top 30 in the next edition, but if they get back into the Premier League pretty quickly, they will start to be in that mix again from a revenue point of view, and they are outperforming some pretty big hitters in the European football market.”

Paraag Marathe and the 49ers can push Leeds United even deeper in the Premier League.

Leeds United returned to the Premier League.
Last time out, the Whites broke another EFL record on their route to three points at Plymouth, propelling them back to second place in the Championship.

With a massive game against Leicester coming up at Elland Road on Friday, February 23, the opportunity to fall six points behind the top is appealing.

Hopefully, promotion back to the Premier League can be achieved before the anxieties set in.
