Barry Ferguson believes Rangers should not think twice about signing Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron on a free transfer.
The former Gers captain would take the youngster at Ibrox in a “heartbeat” despite interest from the Light Blues.
Ferguson has urged the Glasgow club to seize the opportunity and sign the 22-year-old on a pre-contract agreement.
On the Go Radio Football Show (17 January), the 46-year-old stated, “I would take him in a heartbeat.” I believe he is good enough. Whether he begins week in and week out is up to the young man to demonstrate his worth and establish he is capable.
“From what I’ve seen of Cameron, he has the ability, and he appears to be the type of character who is willing to work hard.” And these are the people you can’t let go. You have to go and seize an opportunity. It’s also a free transfer.
Rangers will strengthen with Lyall Cameron’s transfer.
Nils Koppen will assess the performance of the Connor Barron trade and, unsurprisingly, try to sign Cameron for free in the coming months.
While the former Aberdeen midfielder has struggled for playing time in recent weeks, the Scot has demonstrated enormous promise.
Cameron would be another highly regarded prospect in the Gers’ ranks if a transfer could be completed.
Rangers have good depth in the engine room, with Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande establishing an excellent relationship.
Philippe Clement has leaned on the Belgian and Ivorian players in a restructured Bears starting lineup in the second part of the season.
With the rise of Hamza Igamane, Ibrox’s future appears bright, and Cameron’s acquisition would only add to the Light Blues’ roster of strong young players.
While the Glaswegian team must strive to return to the top, they should also consider cultivating future stars and selling them for a profit.
Dundee will appear to be entitled to compensation if the Gers sign the 22-year-old, but the deal will most certainly be considered a bargain.
