Federico Chiesa and Jayden Danns have played few minutes for Liverpool this season, but they both had the same record in the Reds’ victory over Ipswich.
Federico Chiesa and Jayden Danns have only played 35 minutes in the Premier League this season, but they have accomplished something no one else has done in 119 years while playing for Liverpool.
The pair came off the bench as Liverpool won 4-1 against Ipswich Town, with Dominik Szoboszlai opening the scoring. The Hungarian scored first, before Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo made it 3-0 at halftime, and the Dutch winger added his second of the afternoon after the break.
Danns was brought on to replace Alexis MacAllister with 10 minutes remaining, while Chiesa replaced Luis Diaz six minutes after that. They both made history.
According to Michael Reid of Opta, Danns and Chiesa are only the second and third players in Liverpool history to win their first eight matches in all competitions. Previously, only George Latham had done so, between 1905 and 1906.
“I think it was an almost-perfect game,” Gakpo told the Reds’ official website following the match. “I believe we created a lot of chances, and they were certainly a difficult team to play against.
“They played really deep, making it difficult to create chances, but we did it. So, I believe we performed well, scoring four goals, but we conceded at the end, which was not ideal because we wanted to keep a clean sheet. But, in the end, I think it was a nice performance, so on to the next.”
According to Liverpool.com, Danns and Gakpo should be prime possibilities to face PSV in midweek, when Slot can afford to modify his starting lineup. If they play and win again, Liverpool will become the only team to win all eight group matches under the current Champions League system.
