Max Wober may not be as devoted to Leeds United as Daniel Farke believes, and another unexpected departure is not out of the question, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist stated on the Inside Elland Road podcast on August 8 that, while the manager is “buying it,” he is not impressed by the Austrian’s return from Borussia Monchengladbach on loan.
In contrast to Brenden Aaronson, who declined to answer questions from journalists in Germany ahead of his own return from Union Berlin, Wober left the door open for him to leave like he did last summer because he isn’t scheduled to start as of now.
Farke has disclosed that a conversation with the defender in his office has “totally convinced” him to stay and attempt to win over the fans [Yorkshire Evening Post, 8 August].
But Smyth replied, “Farke is buying it, but I am not. He did not want to play in the Bundesliga, Euros, or Championship, so why is he suddenly interested?
“In Germany, the club offered Brenden Aaronson the opportunity to talk to local press and explain himself, which he accepted… Fair play to him. I’m confident he really wants to be at Leeds.
“Max Wober had the chance to speak to us in Germany and he declined, he didn’t want to do it, so that makes me wonder why.”
Brenden Aaronson is interested in joining Leeds United, but Max Wober is unsure.
Wober had stated to Farke that he was willing to stay for the Championship season after relegation a year ago [Leeds Live], but then left for Germany.
The obvious reason why he might want to stay and risk being stuck behind Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon, and Junior Firpo is that he doesn’t have any better options right now.

There is no active release clause in his contract this summer [Leeds Live, 10 July], thus he will not be able to leave as easily as he did previously.
Fans may need to see it to believe it on that front, as both Archie Gray and Crycensio Summerville were sold thanks to mysteriously appearing stipulations.
But Monchegladbach has sought to keep him for the past year but cannot pay the Whites’ asking price of up to £10 million [Kicker, 29 May].
So, with no viable takers, Wober has most likely seen what a standout year in the second tier has done for players like Gray and Summerville and decided it is his best option, but if he has changed his mind before when something better emerged, it is not impossible that he will do so again until the window closes.
