‘Fantastic’: Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling discuss Leeds verdict amid ‘Drama’ live on TV

After Leicester, Ipswich, and Leeds United all won, Ally McCoist said that picking which two of the current top three will gain automatic promotion would be a brave man’s task.

The former Rangers player claimed that the top three may change again next week as he gushed about the drama of the promotion chase.

Jeff Stelling, meanwhile, questioned how all three teams managed to win given the tension, notably in the games against Leeds and Ipswich, both of which won late on.

Stelling stated live on talkSPORT [06:11]: “The top three are still separated by only two points after they all won – heaven knows how they all won. Leeds maintained their lead with two late goals from Summerville and James, defeating Hull 3-1.

McCoist then said, “Fantastic, they scored late on as well.” We’re talking about the top three in Arsenal, City, and Liverpool, but the same applies in the Championship. The drama.

“Leeds United left it late; you’d be a bold man to pick the two [automatic promotion teams]. “Everything could change next week.”

Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist share a championship promotion claim.

Leeds realize they still have a fight on their hands to earn automatic promotion from the Championship, or perhaps the title, given the standard established by their opponents.

Ahead of the games on April 1, Stelling stated that he was astounded by Ipswich and their promotion challenge in light of the strength of Leeds, Leicester, and Southampton, implying that they could be his choice to go up.

With only six games remaining, we are still no closer to understanding the conclusion of the title and promotion competitions, with Leicester, Leeds, and Ipswich all holding the lead at different points in the last two weeks.

After all three teams won again, the pace at the top has been amazing, and whoever dips out of the automatic promotion spots and into the playoffs can count themselves quite unlucky.
