Leeds United’s pursuit of Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe appears to have stalled in the previous 48 hours.
Leeds’ interest in the Canaries star was made known on Monday, but the Whites have been working quietly ever since.
Leeds are thought to have designated Rowe as their top target to replace Crysencio Summerville, who left to West Ham United for more than £25 million this weekend.
Rowe is on a list of objectives that also includes Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, but Leeds are targeting the former at this time.
Leeds made an initial £7 million offer for Rowe, while Sheffield United and QPR are among the Championship clubs interested in Rak-Sakyi.
A Norwich journalist offers an update on Rowe.
Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton listed a few reasons why a deal for Rowe could be tough for Leeds to complete.
They included the asking price, Norwich’s recent sale of important midfielder Gabriel Sara, and Leeds’ status as a divisional opponent.
However, Leeds demonstrated with the arrival of Joel Piroe from Swansea City a year ago that these are issues that can be overcome, particularly the latter.
Pink Un writer Connor Southwell was asked about the current state of play surrounding transfers at Carrow Road during the latest episode of ‘The Along Come Norwich Podcast’.
The podcast host initially suggested Leeds’ interest in Rowe, to which Southwell answered by saying he wouldn’t be surprised if something huge happened at Norwich before the season opening against Oxford United.
Tom stated, “There hasn’t been any more rumours of any outbounds other than a Leeds link, which I actually heard today laughed off by someone in terms of where that ITK came from.”
“Apparently there has been some crap from that source before, but you wouldn’t rule anything out, right? You were stating just before we pushed record that there might be something that surprises you before kickoff on Saturday.”
Southwell immediately responded, “Yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me.” As you know, when you perform the job I do, it only takes one message and one second for everything to change. I never rule anything out, and it’s fair to say that there are a lot of plates spinning both inside and outside right now.”
Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, provided an update on Leeds’ interest in Rowe earlier this week, indicating a similar timeline for a deal.
Romano stated that Rowe is one of the names on Leeds’ list to replace Summerville, and he expects the Whites to bring someone in soon.
He replied, “Yes, he is a possibility. True, his name is among those being considered internally. At the present, I am told that nothing is close to being completed, but it is a real possibility. They will undoubtedly replace Summerville.
“They are assessing all the options, but I think Leeds will be quite fast on this one, also because they made good money with Summerville and also with Archie Gray, so they have some money to invest, and they will surely do that.”
