Fabrizio Romano has announced a major development regarding Virgil van Dijk’s current contract status.
There has been a lot of discussion about the Liverpool club captain. He has yet to sign an extension for his current contract, which expires at the end of the season.
At this point, Van Dijk has every option open to him. Given that we are nearing the end of the season and the club captain’s representatives are free to speak with clubs outside of England, a departure is a real possibility.
However, this would be terrible for Liverpool. Losing a club captain is a significant blow, and Van Dijk is more than that.
He remains one of the top players in world football at his position. He is a world-class talent who has a huge presence in the locker room and sets the standard week in and week out.
However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Van Dijk’s own transfer attitude, so there could be some good news on the future.
Fabrizio Romano’s huge Van Dijk update
On his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano shared some very optimistic news about Van Dijk’s current condition.
Romano revealed that Liverpool wants to keep the Dutchman and is certain they will be able to do so.
“Liverpool internally insist on keeping Virgil van Dijk at the club. “They really want to keep Virgil,” Romano explained.
“They insist on their confidence to make it happen, so Liverpool is still confident – relaxed is a huge term; it’s still too early to say relaxed.
“You are relaxed when you sign a deal, but Liverpool is still in talks with Van Dijk and is certain that they can make it happen with him.
“At the moment, nothing has been agreed, but Virgil van Dijk is communicating with the club. In this circumstance, Liverpool maintains its position.”
This will be huge news for Liverpool supporters. Given the uncertainties surrounding Van Dijk’s future, the fact that the club is still confident in keeping him at Anfield beyond next season is enormous news.
It’s the kind of news we like to hear, and it will reassure fans that they will not lose their club captain in the near future.
Of course, the best thing to do now is to get confirmation from the club. But Romano is a very reputable source, so his confirmation of where Liverpool and Van Dijk are currently is fantastic news.
