Exclusive: Wolves join Forest in battle for £51 million Neto replacement; star shines in Champions League

Nottingham Forest have held conversations with FC Porto about signing Brazil international Galeno, but they will have a struggle with Premier League rivals Wolves following Pedro Neto’s transfer to Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest wasted no time in seeking to bring another outstanding wideman to the City Ground after signing Jota Silva from Vitoria de Guimaraes for a cheap fee of around £6 million earlier this month.

However, with a potential £16 million deal for Ramon Sosa proving difficult – CA Talleres’ president claims that Forest attempted to change the terms of the agreement as talks stalled – a side that has done a lot of shopping in the Portuguese market over the years is now returning to a familiar hunting ground.

HITC can report that Forest is in talks about signing FC Porto forward Galeno.

According to sources speaking on behalf of the two-time European Champions, no proposal has yet been made, unlike other media reports, but the interest is genuine, and conversations have begun.

Nottingham Forest launches Galeno discussions with FC Porto.

Galeno, like Ramon Sosa, is a right-footer who prefers to cut in from the left.

His arrival would relieve pressure on Callum Hudson-Odoi, allowing Nuno Espirito Santo to place him in the same frontline as Jota Silva on the left.

Galena was fantastic for Porto last season. He scored 16 goals and assisted 12 others, gaining his first cap for the Brazilian national team.

“I was very happy for Galeno,” former Porto coach Sergio Conceicao told Record after learning that his star chose to represent the Selecao over Portugal.

    “I am extremely happy.”

Galeno was a skilful, dynamic, and lethal finisher who ended joint-third in the Champions League goalscoring statistics.

He ended slightly behind Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and co. with five goals in seven games, including four against Shakhtar Donetsk and a long-range curler in the final seconds to overcome Arsenal.

Galeno has also picked up where he left off at the beginning of 2024/25. He scored twice in 38 minutes during last weekend’s exciting 4-3 Portuguese Super Cup triumph over Sporting Lisbon.

Wolves need to replace Chelsea’s Pedro Neto.

In addition to Nottingham Forest, HITC has learned that Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested.

Gary O’Neil’s crew is very familiar with the Primeira Liga market. Wolves are ready to lose Pedro Neto to Chelsea after a £54 million fee was agreed, and Galeno is expected to be near the top of their list of potential replacements.

Galeno signed a new contract at the Estadio do Dragao in January. One with a £51 million release clause, as announced by Porto on their official website. Wolves have money to spend after losing Neto, but it remains to be seen whether they or Forest are willing to pay such a cost.

Alternatively, Porto could insist that the clause be paid in full.

Meanwhile, HITC has been informed that Neto might formally join Chelsea on Monday.
