Darko Gyabi, the huge midfielder from Leeds United, has agreed to return to Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan, according to Football Insider.
Gyabi, 20, will now play under Wayne Rooney after an encouraging second half of the season at Home Park.
Football Insider [11 January] exclusively disclosed Gyabi’s first loan move to Argyle during the winter transfer window, where he went on to make ten Championship games before sustaining an injury in late March.
A comprehensive agreement is now believed to exist between both teams and the midfielder, who has previously played in the Premier League and Championship for Leeds.
Daniel Farke and his team at Elland Road are in the midst of a significant squad rebuild, with account figures due by tomorrow when Gyabi leaves for more senior experience.
Leeds United star Gyabi left on loan as squad is formed.
Gyabi’s loan to Rooney’s Plymouth will reduce the salary cost nominally, helping Leeds United’s finances, but former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson [29 June] informed Football Insider that large sales are still possible.
Robinson is also optimistic that Leeds can still gain promotion even if they trade players like Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto to aid with finances, as long as the squad’s “nucleus” remains intact.
Incomings will also be impending, with Leeds intending to reinforce their midfield, denying Gyabi frequent opportunity in the Championship at Elland Road this season.
Callum O’Hare of Coventry City is classified as an offensive midfielder rather than Gyabi’s “box-to-box” role, but he has been heavily connected with a move as a free agency, with former teammate Alan Hutton telling Football Insider [19 June] that he would be a good signing for Farke.
Gyabi, who previously played with Manchester City before signing professionally in Leeds, will welcome the opportunity to play regularly in the Championship under Rooney’s tutelage, and he hopes to return to Leeds and compete for a first-team spot.
The 6’5″ England Under-20 midfielder’s current contract with the club extends until the summer of 2026.
