Keith Wyness, former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive, believes Nottingham Forest will now face a six-point deduction for breaching PSR.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and Villa from 2016 to 2018, and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, believes the outcome of Everton’s appeal confirms Forest will face a similar deduction.
Forest were charged for exceeding the Premier League’s permitted losses in their 2022-23 accounts.
They are scheduled to begin their hearing shortly, with a decision expected before the end of the season.
Following Everton’s appeal, the independent commission stated that “any breach of rule E.51 (i.e., any PSR Calculation indicating losses of more than £105 million over the relevant period) warrants a points deduction, and nothing less.”
Nottingham Forest’s ex-CEO feels the six-point deduction is “too harsh”.
According to Football Insider, the paperwork from Everton’s appeal reveals that Forest would suffer a points reduction.
“I’m afraid it looks like Forest will get a six-point penalty,” Wyness told Football Insider.
“It appears to be a modest breach, and I believe it affects more than one player based on my reading.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that some form of point deduction will be required, unless there are mitigating factors that I’m unaware of.
“I still believe that is the incorrect type of consequence.
“I believe it is draconian, and I hope the commission hearing this understands that a suspended points reduction, a transfer restriction, or a fine may be the appropriate course of action.
“I still believe this is too harsh.”
