Football Insider has learned that Leeds United are interested in signing Birmingham City sensation Jordan James.
The Yorkshire club is looking for a new central midfielder following Glen Kamara’s £8.4 million move to French club Rennes, and James, 20, is a possible replacement.
According to Football Insider, Leeds has a “strong interest” in James but will face competition from an unknown Premier League club to sign him.
Birmingham may be forced to grudgingly sell their finest asset after a costly summer of expenditure following their relegation to League One.
Leeds United want to sign Birmingham City’s wonderkid Jordan.
Despite being only 20 years old, James has already made 105 appearances and scored 10 goals for his childhood club.
Despite Birmingham’s eventual relegation from the Championship, he had his best season last year, scoring eight goals in 47 games across all competitions.
The teenager is already a full Wales international, having made his debut in the Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia alongside Leeds players Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon.
Birmingham have already spent £11.7 million on eight new players, determined to regain promotion to England’s second division at the first opportunity.
In stark contrast, Leeds are failed to make a move in the transfer window, having only signed Rodon and Jayden Bogle despite losing 16 first-team players, either permanently or on loan.
There could be more exits from Elland Road this transfer window, but the club does not intend to make things easy.
Football Insider disclosed (July 28) that despite Everton’s significant interest, star winger Wilfried Gnonto is expected to begin the Championship season with Leeds.
