Exclusive: Leeds aim to re-sign massive favourite this summer

If Leeds United are promoted back to the Premier League this summer, they will be looking to re-sign Kalvin Phillips on a permanent basis, according to Football Insider sources.

The Yorkshire club is set to spend handsomely in the summer transfer window if they return to the top flight, and a midfield powerhouse will be one of their top goals.

Phillips joined West Ham on a six-month loan move in January, but Leeds anticipate the England international to return to Manchester City at the conclusion of the season and be sold on permanent terms.

West Ham are thought to be interested in the 28-year-old, but Leeds and other clubs may also be interested.

Despite his struggles to adjust in at City following his £45 million transfer in 2022, the United youth graduate is still highly regarded at Elland Road.

His £140,000-per-week contract may be a stumbling block, but Leeds historically spent heavily in the top flight, paying £100,000-per-week or more to players like as Rodrigo Moreno.

Can Leeds United bring Kalvin Phillips back to Elland Road this summer?

Phillips has failed to impress in his first few weeks at West Ham, making an error that resulted in a goal in his debut against Bournemouth and was sent off against Nottingham Forest two weeks later.

He joined the Hammers after making just 10 appearances for City in the first half of the season.

Phillips parted out with City manager Pep Guardiola when the latter publicly declared that he was overweight after signing from Leeds.

According to Football Insider, Phillips arrived at the London Stadium weighing more than his desired weight.
