According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Jack Butland is back in training with Rangers following his injury and is almost ready to make a comeback.
The Ibrox goalie hopes to make a comeback either in the Europa League match against Manchester United next week (January 23) or Sunday’s Scottish Cup match against Fraserburgh (19 January).
Butland’s leg has been internally bleeding, and he has missed the last four Scottish Premiership games.
After being released from the hospital on January 1st, he was unable to attend the Old Firm’s victory over Celtic the following day.
Liam Kelly is expected to continue playing goal for Rangers, therefore the nine-cap England international will also be absent from Wednesday’s match against Aberdeen.
In Butland’s recent injured absence, Philippe Clement’s team has only managed one clean sheet, giving up five goals and accumulating eight of a potential twelve points.
Prior to his leg issue, the former Stoke player had been practically constant for the Ibrox team this season.
In the 2024–25 season, he has made 29 appearances in all competitions and has led the team in James Tavernier’s absence.
Butland is ready to return to the Rangers after being hospitalized.
In those appearances, Butland has had 13 clean sheets while giving up 27 goals in league, cup, and European competitions.
Following backup periods with Crystal Palace and Manchester United, he signed a free transfer to Rangers in July 2023.
With 87 appearances for the Gers, the goalie’s contract is set to expire in May 2027.
On Wednesday, January 15, Clement’s team, now ranked second in the Scottish Premiership, will play Aberdeen in an attempt to cut the Celtic lead to 13 points.
With matches against Union Saint-Gilloise and Manchester United ahead of them, the Glasgow giants, who now rank seventh in the Europa League standings, are in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage.
