Former Everton manager Keith Wyness has stated that Red Bull could buy a majority stake in Leeds United from 49ers Enterprises in the future.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now operates a football consultancy advising elite teams, suggested the two “strong groups” may be difficult to work together at Elland Road.
Leeds revealed last week (30 May) that they have signed a multi-year partnership with Red Bull as a minority investor and sponsor.
Beginning with the 2024-25 season, the energy drink brand will sponsor the Whites on the front of their shirts.
Red Bull owns several football clubs globally, notably RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg, as well as a dominant Formula One team.
The 49ers, commanded by president Paraag Marathe, only consented to a majority takeover of Leeds last year (2023), after first joining as minority partners.
According to Wyness, Red Bull might complete their entire acquisition of Leeds within a few years.
Wyness suggested that if the club fails to succeed in the future years, Red Bull might assume complete control from its US-based investors.
He said on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast, “It will never be Red Bull Leeds.”
“The colour red will cause problems for the fans.
“If things don’t go smoothly, Red Bull may decide to buy the 49ers position.
“There are now two very strong organizations in situ, which usually doesn’t bode well.
“Hopefully it does, but I’ve got enough experience to know that things don’t always work out that way.”
