Mateo Joseph, a Leeds United prospect, has yet to make his Championship debut, but he is on the right track.
The 20-year-old is one of the club’s most promising young players, and Daniel Farke stated that he was “excited” to see him in pre-season training.
Joseph started in the FA Cup’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, scoring both goals. He has made several appearances from the bench, and Farke is very impressed with what he has seen thus far.
.
Leeds have more options up front in the form of Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe, as well as other players who can play up front if necessary, so Joseph will need to be patient and seize opportunities when they arise.
Farke still believes the youthful striker can make a “big impact” from the bench in the final parts of the season.
“We are pleased with this development following a long-term injury at the beginning of the season. I’m excited about his pre-season performance and future progress. “That’s why we gave him a new contract,” Farke stated ahead of Leeds’ match against Sheffield Wednesday.
“We can’t say he’s the go-to man for the run-in right now. We have a lot of competition there. Mateo demonstrated his abilities in the cup, particularly in the final 25 minutes last night. If he continues to do this, his minutes will increase. Perhaps he can have a significant impact down the stretch.”
Leeds United team news vs Sheffield Wednesday
The Whites will meet Sheffield Wednesday away from home in the Championship on Friday night, and it promises to be another exciting game.
Leeds have ten victories and one tie in their previous eleven Championship games, and they need all three points to put pressure on Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
Farke confirmed that Jaidon Anthony will not participate again in this game. He was unable to attend the most recent match owing to personal circumstances. The Whites manager also stated that Pascal Struijk is expected to return to first-team training following the international break.
