Nottingham Forest’s January interest in a Premier League player may be renewed as he seeks a summer move.

Nottingham Forest’s difficult 2023/24 season has now come to an end, with the club surviving in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth.

Nuno Espirito Santo will now have to navigate a difficult summer transfer window, with Forest required to sell players before June 30 to prevent more FFP violations.

However, this does not rule out the arrival of new players at the City Ground this summer, since Forest has a number of areas in need of improvement.

One of those positions has been a major issue all season, and Evangelos Marinakis attempted to fix it in the January transfer window.

The player that Forest were unable to sign during the winter transfer window may now be ready to quit his current club in search of a new challenge this summer.

Forest could resume interest in the January transfer target.

Between the sticks has been a major issue for Forest this season, with three goalkeepers rotating during the season.

Matz Sels, Matt Turner, and Odysseas Vlachodimos have all received opportunities in goal for Forest this season, with Nuno unable to get his January objective.

However, it appears that the target from earlier this year may be open to leave his current club during the summer in quest of more regular games.

Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool is thought to have piqued Forest’s interest in January as Nuno sought to find a starting goalkeeper.

According to The Athletic, Forest were unable to sign the Ireland international in January because they could not fulfill Liverpool’s financial demands.

However, the 25-year-old is preparing to depart Anfield in the coming months after spending another season behind Alisson Becker.

A new goalkeeper is definitely a top priority for Nuno this summer, with the article mentioning Koen Casteels and Andrew Ventura as potential candidates.

What Jurgen Klopp has said about Caoimhin Kelleher

Despite being Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper, Kelleher has played 26 times this season in all competitions.

Almost half (10) of those appearances occurred in the Premier League while Liverpool’s Brazilian number one was out due to injury.

Kelleher has become an extremely solid option for Liverpool in recent years, having appeared in multiple cup finals, earning him high praise from Jurgen Klopp.

“”He was superb against Brentford. I am not sure who Ireland’s number one goalie is, but if they have a better one, they deserve recognition. “He’s outstanding,” Klopp told the press earlier this year.

“We will see how long Alisson is out, but Caoimhin is exceptional.”
