Exceptional claim – Ferguson reacts to Cyriel Dessers exit he’s seen

Barry Ferguson believes Cyriel Dessers’ performance for Rangers against Union Saint-Gilloise last month was “exceptional” and expressed his satisfaction that the Nigerian will remain at Ibrox for the time being.

The striker has been linked with a move away from Rangers since the summer transfer season, with speculations intensifying as the winter window neared its end.

No advances were made, and the Germans chose to maintain their talisman for the time being.

Ferguson spoke on the Go Radio Football Show (5 February) on the Rangers’ decision to sign Dessers.

“Well certainly the past couple of weeks, he’s been in really good form, I think a couple of really good finishes, one against Manchester United and another against Manchester United and another against Dundee United,” he told the BBC.

“I was at USG the other day and thought his whole performance was amazing; it was the best I’ve seen him in a Rangers shirt, so I’m not surprised the Rangers wanted to keep him, and I’m not surprised a few teams were interested in signing him.

“I’m happy that he’s here until at least the end of the season.”

Cyriel Dessers needs to maintain his purple patch of form for Rangers.

Although Dessers’ final third poise has been questioned at times, it appears that he still has a lot to give the Ibrox club.

His individual striker performances haven’t been very impressive, but when he’s been paired with Hamza Igmane in recent weeks, it’s felt like the two have worked well together.

Dessers may hold the ball up for the Moroccan, allowing him to move up the pitch and look for a gap to split the opposition’s defensive line.

Philippe Clement has also tried with Igamane on the flanks this season, but it’s clear that he’s far more efficient in a center role.

There’s still plenty of time left in the season for things to turn around for the Gers, and as long as Dessers continues his recent run of strong form, it’s difficult to see why they won’t improve on their earlier season results.
