Martin Atkinson may face new demands after Rangers were left enraged against Motherwell on Saturday, Keith Hackett says.
The Bears crashed to a 2-1 defeat against the Steelmen at Ibrox, with two flashpoints leaving Barry Ferguson and the crowd fuming.
After missing an apparent backpass in the first half, Nick Walsh then disallowed an apparent Cyriel Dessers equaliser for offside, with VAR letting him down, it seems.
Scottish FA to break silence on Rangers controversy
Hackett believes that Atkinson should speak out on why this goal was wrongly disallowed, with Dessers onside and Danilo not touching the ball or becoming active in the final third.
The ex-FIFA referee and PGMOL chief believes that VAR has backed up a “poor decision” from the on-field officials, leaving Dessers and Rangers bewildered.
“This goal should not have been ruled out,” Hackett exclusively told Ibrox News.
“The player in an offside position neither played the ball or became active.
“A poor decision from the match officials and VAR has let the referee down.
“The Head of VAR Martin Atkinson should be asked to explain why a good goal has been ruled out.”
Having said that, after the calamitous officiating in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic, which led to an apology, how are things like this still happening?
Rangers | 1-2 | Motherwell |
9′ | Armstrong | |
30′ | Sparrow | |
Dessers | 54′ |
Walsh has been at the heart of several controversial decisions while in charge of Rangers this season, the last being the red card handed to Mohamed Diomande at Dundee United.
That was rescinded, and while he wasn’t helped at Ibrox on Saturday, he is the main face behind yet another blunder which has this time cost the Govan side any points.
The Scottish FA will likely come out with the same old boring comments, possibly straight from Atkinson, but it won’t change the fact that officiating has never been worse.
