Rangers forward Hamza Igamane is at risk of facing retrospective discipline from the SFA after a “disgraceful” incident in the win against St Johnstone, according to Keith Hackett.
Philippe Clement’s side defeated St Johnstone 3-1 in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (12 January), relieving some of the burden on the Belgian head coach.
Igamane opened the score after 16 minutes, amidst fan complaints, but he could face punishment for attempting to deceive referees just before being substituted in the second half.
Following a minor nudge from Barry Douglas, the in-form attacker hurled himself to the ground and sprawled around clutching his leg.
After examining the footage, former FIFA official Hackett told Ibrox News exclusively: “Igamane’s actions are very terrible.
“He should have received an immediate yellow card for an obvious act of simulation. Because the referee failed to sanction this, the Scottish FA should investigate and take corrective action.”
Rangers’ Hamza Igamane is in excellent form.
However, his performance in the second half at Ibrox was rather disappointing.
The Moroccan was attempting to buy his team a penalty, but Douglas’ contact was slight at best and did not deserve a reaction if awarded.
Rangers fans will forgive him, though, after his goal against St Johnstone brought his total for the season in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League to 12, prompting inevitable leave chatter.
Half of those goals have come in his last five games, so let’s hope that no retrospective action is taken by those in authority.
