Latest Nottingham Forest news as research shows Reds’ transfer spending in comparison to the rest of the world.

A new analysis has determined how much Nottingham Forest spent on transfer fees to build their current squad.

According to the CIES Football Observatory, the Reds are one of the top 20 teams in the world in terms of transfer amounts spent to bring in current squad members (both permanently and on loan). According to the article, €398 (£335 million) has been spent, including add-ons, to attract current team members, demonstrating owner Evangelos Marinakis’ backing.

Without add-ons, the sum is given as €306 million (£258 million). According to reports, the club paid out an average cost of €16.6 million (£14 million).

This year’s summer of change at the City Ground saw Forest look to offer head coach Nuno Espirito Santo with the tools he needed to compete in the Premier League. Eleven new additions arrived, while some players left in a bid to reduce the squad size.

Eric da Silva Moreira, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Miguel, Nikola Milenkovic, Jota Silva, Ramon Sosa, and Morato joined the team on permanent contracts. Alex Moreno and James Ward-Prowse both joined on loan. Marko Stamenic and David Carmo also signed contracts, but were immediately loaned to Olympiacos.

Last summer, midfielder Ibrahim Sangare was one of the additions, paid almost £30 million. Morgan Gibbs-White was one of the players signed after the club’s elevation to the Premier League a year ago, for an initial sum of £25 million with the possibility of add-ons totaling £42 million.

Chelsea’s expenditure dwarfs the Reds’. The Blues lead the list with €1.28 billion with add-ons (regardless of their actual payment) and €1.15 billion without them. The CIES Football Observatory claims these are the highest figures ever recorded.

The top 100 includes 24 English clubs (the 20 Premier League teams and four from the Championship). Nineteen countries are included in the top 100. The report is based on squads as of September 3, 2024, and includes any add-ons and paid debts. The top 20 list is presented below.
