Simon Phillips reports that Enzo Maresca wants to recruit Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville for Chelsea this summer.
The journalist writes on his Substack account (2 June) that the new manager at Stamford Bridge is looking for a 1v1 specialist out wide, and the 22-year-old Dutchman fits the bill.
Chelsea “sense an opportunity” to sign Summerville since Leeds need to sell players, and they feel there will be “no big fees likely attached to the move, wages, agent fees, or asking price”.
Leeds United battle to keep Crysencio Summerville.
There is a serious struggle brewing at Elland Road, because the club has openly recognized that sales are required this summer, and Summerville will be a top target for many clubs.
This season, the winger scored 21 goals and assisted nine times, making him an important element of Daniel Farke’s squad as they campaigned for promotion and proving that he was too excellent to play in the second level.
Maresca would have seen it firsthand after losing both of his games against the Whites while at Leicester, so it’s understandable that he’d want Summerville in his squad.
However, Chelsea now has other winger possibilities, including Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku.
It’s unclear if he’ll play much or not, and the fact that they feel he’ll be relatively inexpensive is concerning, but it appears unlikely that he’ll wear a Leeds shirt again next season.
