EFL expert expresses views on Leeds United manager Daniel Farke following ‘unconvincing’ victory

Leeds United collected four points from their Easter programme to sustain their Championship title challenge.

Leeds United finished a challenging Easter period on a strong note, edging Hull City at Elland Road to reclaim the automatic promotion positions. The Whites’ performance was not particularly memorable, but they are still unblemished in the Championship this season.

Don Goodman, an EFL analyst who was on commentary duty for Sky Sports at Elland Road last night, complimented United manager Daniel Farke and his team’ perseverance in the Yorkshire Derby. “It was very nervy,” Goodman told Sky Sports News.

“The previous two performances I’ve watched from Leeds, away at Watford and at home against Hull City, were quite unconvincing. And here’s the important part: when you’re a top team, you dig out results even when you’re not at your best, which is what Leeds United did against Watford and Hull to get four points.

“Hull dominated the ball for long periods of the game, but despite their outstanding performance, they didn’t create enough really decent chances.

“Leeds needed to dig deep. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Elland Road so silent for long stretches of the game, so it was a true test of their character, and they got through it. I believe Daniel Farke remarked to the fact that the international break came at a bad moment for Leeds; for some of those players, it was their third game in six days after playing for their countries and Leeds.

“It’s been a difficult Easter weekend, but four points are really valuable for Leeds United. Daniel Farke, by the way, did an excellent job.”

United return to action on Saturday, visiting play-off contenders Coventry City. The Sky Blues’ dreams of finishing in the top six were dashed on Monday when they lost 2-1 to Cardiff City.
