Eddie Nketiah Arsenal to Nottingham Forest transfer twist as another bid rejected

The most recent Nottingham Forest transfer news as efforts to recruit a striker apparently saw Eddie Nketiah agree personal terms, while Feyenoord play hardball over Santiago Gimenez

Despite initial concerns about the complexity of the task, Nottingham Forest are thought to have achieved a personal understanding with Eddie Nketiah on his transfer from Arsenal.

Earlier this week, the 25-year-old emerged as one of two top possibilities for Nuno Espirito Santo to strengthen his attacking lineup. An opening bid of £25 million inclusive of add-ons was claimed to be far lower than the Gunners’ valuation, which is between £30 million and £35 million.

Forest has continued to negotiate, and they appear to be ‘near’ to reaching a final deal. If everything went as planned on the clubs’ end, Fabrizio Romano’s most recent report would indicate that a deal would be completed quickly once sorted.

He reports that after direct contacts, the striker has agreed to personal terms to move to the City Ground, with negotiations over a transfer fee in ‘the last stages’. This follows earlier concerns that Nketiah would refuse a move if his staggering £120,000-per-week salary was not matched.

The most recent report also clarifies the pursuit of an alternative target, Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez. It is reported that the Dutch club is holding out after rejecting a second bid worth €26 million (£22.1 million) plus add-ons.

Even if the team is actively chasing both strikers, it is expected that only one will be signed before the August 30 deadline. Nuno already has the seasoned Chris Wood, who began Forest’s Premier League campaign against Bournemouth last week, and Taiwo Awoniyi, who despite his injury issues has 16 top-flight goals in two years.
