Duke basketball freshman Cooper Flagg is the heavy favorite to earn the John R. Wooden Award as the nation’s most outstanding player after two Auburn Tigers losses and a stunning home finale.
Flagg is -220 to win the prestigious prize as of Sunday afternoon, with an implied 68.75% chance, while Auburn senior Johni Broome has plummeted to +180.
Flagg struggled with fouls against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, finishing with only 15 points in 29 minutes, but he did add nine rebounds, six assists, and four blocks. He had one of his greatest performances of the season against Wake Forest on Monday, recording 28 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and two steals in what will most likely be his final home game.
Broome only had eight points against the Texas A&M Aggies on Wednesday, missing five of nine attempts, but he stormed back into award contention with a 34-point outburst against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday. Despite the OT loss, he recorded eight rebounds, five blocks, three assists, and three steals.
