‘Drop in the ocean’ – Pundit clear Leeds 100% must acquire ‘Fantastic’ ace for Premier League, easily inexpensive

Paul Robinson believes Leeds United would try to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent basis even if they are not promoted to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke has relied heavily on the on-loan Tottenham defender, who has made 32 appearances this season.

Robinson is so impressed that if the Whites get promoted, he sees the Welsh defender as a “must” acquisition for the top flight, and having been quoted £15 million to buy him in the summer [Phil Hay via The Square Ball, 9 November, 18 million], the asking price would be a “drop in the ocean”.

He concedes that the cost would be prohibitively expensive for a second-tier club if “the worst case” occurred and the club was relegated to the Championship, but alternative arrangements would most likely be made in that scenario.

Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “In today’s market, £15 million doesn’t sound excessive, does it? It does for a Championship team but not for a Premier League team, so much relies on where Leeds end up next season.

“I’m confident that even in the Championship, if the worst-case scenario occurs, they’ll still try to do the deal or make that happen in some way because he’s made such a tremendous influence this season and has been a very, very fantastic addition.

“Next year in the Premier League, he’d be nearly a must-sign because of how he’s played and fit in.

“If you’re going to be a Premier League club then £15m for Joe Rodon is going to be a drop in the ocean, it’d be a fantastic signing.”

Rodon’s performances for Leeds United have impressed Sky Sports analyst Robinson.

Rodon is expected to join Leeds United permanently after leaving Tottenham.

If there isn’t room for Rodon in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team, there must be a deal to be struck, especially with money already on the table, but it would clearly be in the best interests of everyone at Elland Road to try their hand at being a top division side.

The form since the start of 2024 has made automatic promotion a viable possibility, and the 26-year-old’s performances have played a significant role in that.
