Philippe Clement’s time at Rangers looks like being at end after yet another dismal defeat and performance.
It is no longer the results that are the issue, with a hostile Ibrox crowd witnessing an insipid display which saw no clear cut chances.
According to the Heart and Hand podcast’s David Edgar, fans should be keeping an eye out for an official announcement after The Sun reported that Philippe Clement is on the verge of being sacked as the Rangers manager.
Philippe Clement facing Rangers sack
Fears had spread that Clement might escape the axe due to the £17 million loss discovered in the Gers records, but Patrick Stewart appears to be keeping his word, with STV’s Peter Smith also covering the story:
“I’ve made it clear that we are not refusing to make modifications due to financial constraints.
“All I can do is repeat that, but that is not the situation. Keeping someone in a position to avoid a termination payout is a false economy.
“So, it is not the way to manage a club, and that is not what we are doing.
“Decisions have been made for the long-term interest of the football club, not to save money.”
Edgar’s statement that Clement is ‘gone’ implies that an official announcement is not far away.
Rangers make the right decision, despite recent failure.
Stewart also stated that he does not want to change managers again because, in recent years, nothing has improved despite three different managers attempting to close the gap with Celtic.
All were backed, but the concerns extend beyond the guy in the Ibrox hotseat.
Supporting Clement is a false equivalence because others who came before him were also the wrong decision, and Stewart appears to have had enough.
Clement was not going to resign. Talks about battling for the club and being persuaded he was the ideal man for the position appear to have fallen on deaf ears.
Rangers appeared to have found the right man last year, but it appears that the search is likely to resume.
