A Nottingham Forest transfer target was dealt a catastrophic injury setback this week, with Nicolas Dominguez and Remo Freuler both reacting to the news.
Several players will join Forest during the summer transfer window, while others will leave the City Ground.
Regardless of which tier Forest finds itself in next season, it’s safe to assume that the club will once again be a hub of activity.
Forest will be looking to add players in central midfield, and Lewis Ferguson has been linked with a move to the club.
The Scotland international is now playing for Serie A powerhouse Bologna, and he is considered to be worth over £18 million.
Now he’s been given a devastating injury setback, and it’s bad news for Bologna, Scotland, and any potential suitors, including Forest.
Injury update for Nottingham Forest target Lewis
It’s not good news for Ferguson, who has confirmed the worst-case scenario on Instagram.
Ferguson has captained Bologna since the beginning of the year, but he was forced off of Saturday’s 0-0 tie in the 62nd minute.
He hinted after the game that he could be fine, but now he’s provided heartbreaking confirmation on Instagram.
He stated: “I’m devastated by today’s news, but that’s life. I will do all in my power to come back stronger and better than before. Thank you all for your support. “See you soon.”
Ferguson received encouragement from some Forest players, with current midfielder Dominguez posting: “Forza.”
The Argentine arrived in Forest as part of a swap deal with Freuler, and the Swiss international responded with, “Come on.”
Forest will likely move on from the transfer target.
This is horrible for the player, as Ferguson is now out of the Euro 2024 tournament after Scotland qualified.
It’s unclear how long he will be out, but with an ACL injury, he appears unlikely to play again this season.
When it comes to the transfer window, Forest must part ways with Ferguson.
The Reds have had enough bad luck with injuries without taking the risk of signing a player who will be returning from a major injury.
Ferguson is only 24, and for £18 million, he would have been a bargain for Forest.
However, in the short term, Forest will have to look elsewhere, and it will be interesting to see which other midfielders are on the shortlist.
