Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk will not return to training until June owing to an injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury specialist replied after the club disclosed that the Dutch centre-back needed groin surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
It is understood that the injection technique failed since he did not respond as predicted, necessitating surgery.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a Physical Therapist and Sports Scientist, said of Struijk:
“It sounds like he hasn’t responded as well as the team would have hoped, and the other treatment, an injection, apparently didn’t work as expected.
“At that point, you must get a little more invasive, which results in a longer return timetable.
“He’ll not be back in training before June as it will take him weeks of recovery time before he’s ready to return on the grass.”
Leeds United will be hopeful he’s back at 100% next season.
Struijk was a first-team regular this season alongside Joe Rodon, but injury has sidelined him.
While Ethan Ampadu has stepped up in his absence, it is still critical to have him back, and the physios will definitely assist him behind the scenes.
He also provides the team with a left-back option, and if no one else is added, he might play that position next season, preferably in the Premier League.
